‘Thanksgiving tea’ with Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Hale to benefit Andrew Johnson Heritage Association

Greenevillians will soon have a unique opportunity to take tea later this month with the two individuals most responsible for establishing the Thanksgiving holiday – Sarah Hale and Abraham Lincoln. The tea on November 17 will benefit the Andrew Johnson Heritage Association.

Smith honored as ‘Student of the Block’

Jessica “Jessi” Smith of Afton has been honored as the “Student of the Block” for the second block of the fall semester at Tusculum College.

Tusculum College professors travel to Northeast Italy as part of Global Studies program

Five Tusculum College professors spent time this summer in Northeast Italy as part of the Tusculum College Global Studies program.

The professors, which included Dr. Greg Church, associate professor of biology; Dr. Jack Currie, professor of education; Dr. Troy Goodale, assistant professor of political science; Dennis Lingerfelt, assistant professor of computer science, and Craig Wright, assistant professor of business administration, participated in order to pave the way for future student trips.

Tusculum College Fall Health and Wellness Fantasia set for Nov. 5

The Tusculum College Fall Fantasia Health and Wellness Fair will be Thursday, November 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Niswonger Commons on the Tusculum College campus.

Currently more than 40 providers are registered to participate in this annual event, and more are expected, as this event in 2008 drew more than 300 visitors. In addition to Tusculum College faculty, staff and students, the Health and Wellness Fair is open to the public and many of the community assisted living facilities bring residents who might benefit from the services and information provided. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend. The event is sponsored by the Tusculum College Health and Counseling Office.

Tusculum College competes in ‘Blood Drive Bowl’ against Carson-Newman

Tusculum College is hoping to defend its 2008 victory over the Carson-Newman Eagles in the coming weeks, but not by notching yardage and points, but by banking units of donated blood.

Tusculum holds the title of Blood Drive Bowl winner from last season after claiming the victory by a 51-unit margin. And the College, with the help of the community, is ready to take home the title again.

Theatre-at-Tusculum to present Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Nov. 6-8 and 12-15

Theatre-at-Tusculum will bring a world full of whimsy and romance to the stage in November in its production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” The beloved musical will be performed at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 with two Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 15. All performances will be in the auditorium of the Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Building on the Tusculum College campus.

Tusculum to host basketball tip-off luncheon, Nov. 11

Tusculum College will host its annual Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon, Wednesday, November 11, at 11:30 a.m. at the Chalmers Conference Center, located in the Niswonger Commons on the Greeneville campus.

Tusculum men’s basketball coach Jim Boone and women’s coach Adell Harris will speak, along with Pioneer players and coaches.

Tusculum College students host mini health fair

Students in Dr. Angela Keaton’s “Theory and Practice of Citizenship” class recently spent two days educating their fellow students about health issues, the flu, the perils of alcohol and drug use and several other health-related educational topics.

The students hosted a campus mini health fair in October and set up displays in the Niswonger Commons focusing on how to prevent flu on campus, emotional wellness and stress relief strategies, safe sex practices and drug and alcohol abuse.

Tusculum College student is Miss Greene County 2009

Tusculum College’s Candace Babb is this year’s winner of the Miss Greene County scholarship pageant and will represent the community in the Miss Tennessee Pageant this June when the pageant is held in Jackson, Tenn.

Babb is a senior this year at the College, majoring in elementary education. She is from Greeneville and is the daughter of Curtis and Teresa Babb.

Staff Council learns about history of Tusculum College

Recently members of the Tusculum College Staff Council attended a workshop on the history of Tusculum College. The workshop was presented by George Collins, director of museum programs and studies, and was held at the President Andrew Johnson Library and Museum. “This was a great opportunity for us to learn more about the history of the College,” said Michelle Arbogast, assistant bookstore manager and chairperson for the staff development committee for this year’s Staff Council. Those attending the workshop were: Arbogast, Bette Dowd, assistant certification officer and COG office supervisor; Christy Norris-Bowling, tutor coordinator and Amanda Waddell, director of career development.

Tusculum College Homecoming 2009, with its theme, “Tradition Never Graduates,” is scheduled this year for October 30-31, in conjunction with the Tusculum College - Mars Hill football game on Saturday afternoon.

Learn the history of the McCormick bell during Homecoming Week!

Myron J. “Jack” Smith, Jr., professor of library science/history and director of the Thomas J. Garland Library, will offer an illustrated talk on the history of the McCormick Hall bell in on Friday, October 30, in Room 206 at 1:30 p.m. All alumni, students, faculty, and staff are invited to this free event.

What would “Honest Abe” think of his portrayal in film?

A unique perspective in answering that question will be offered during “Lincoln at the Movies” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Behan Arena Theatre on the lower level of the Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Building on the Tusculum College campus.
